- How are you safely managing social distancing?
A discrete floor sticker is installed in front of the reception desks for social distancing purposes, tables and chairs in all F&B outlets are spread out 1 according to legislation person per 2 square meters at indoor spaces and 1 person per 1.5 square meters at outdoor areas. Breakfast and dinner will be served on set times for each room allowing a permitted number of guests per time slot. At pool area there will be a distance of 4 meters between umbrellas around the pool and sun beds will have a distance of 2 meters from each other. Designed signs will be displayed in several areas to remind our guests to keep their distances.
- Are you giving every guest a temperature check to make sure no one staying there is sick?
Yes we will discreetly check the temperature of every guest upon entry and exit from our different departments.
- What is the standard procedure of the Kefalos Hotels if a guest is suspended with COVID-19?
We have an action plan as per the legislation of ministry of health and we will follow it. More details could be found in the general protocol for hotel operations.
- What are the basic hygiene standards that the staff will follow?
Every team member will strictly comply with the basic protective measures against covid-19 announced by the world health organization and every day we will conduct temperature checks upon arrival of all staff members. Every member will wear disposable gloves and masks through the entire shift unless advised otherwise from our ministry of health. Details regarding housekeeping and maintenance staff could be found in the general protocol for hotel operations.
- Will there be contact with the reception during check in?
Plexi glass will be installed at our front office desks and our staff will be wearing masks and gloves, using antiseptic, check in forms could be filled after check in and returned back at the Reception.
- How many will be using the lifts and how will be kept sanitized?
Lifts will be frequently sanitized and only family members will be allowed to use the lifts at the same time. Outside every lift disinfection dispensers will be installed for the use of the guests.
- Will breakfast be held for all guests at the same time?
No, different slots will be available and each guest will be notified during which time slot could have their meals.
- Will there be limited seating arrangements during lunch or dinner at the restaurants?
Yes, based on the COVID-19 health and safety standards, tables and chairs in all F&B outlets are spread out according to the legislations, 1 person per 2 square meters indoors and 1 person per 1,5 square meters in outdoor spaces.
- Will all inclusive be operated as normal with buffet?
Yes, it will and during buffet service, all guests will wear disposable gloves and masks when serving themselves from an individual portions buffet, while the rest of the items will be served from either our live cooking station or a member of staff will be serving guests. Beverages will be served at the table and automatic coffee and juice machines will be operated by our staff .Tongs and ladles will be changed frequently, restaurant team members will clean and disinfect all buffet surfaces as often as possible, all cutlery, crockery and glassware will be washed in high temperatures and disinfected as well as trays and other service equipment will be disinfected after each use.
- Will there still be buffet service or will meals be served?
Yes, both. As noted in the previous answer, all guests will wear disposable gloves and masks when serving themselves from an individual portions buffet, while the rest of the items will be served from either our live cooking station or a member of staff will be serving guests. Beverages will be served at the table and automatic coffee and juice machines will be operated by our staff .Tongs and ladles will be changed frequently, restaurant team members will clean and disinfect all buffet surfaces as often as possible, all cutlery, crockery and glassware will be washed in high temperatures and disinfected as well as trays and other service equipment will be disinfected after each use.
- How many times will I receive housekeeping services and linen changing?
Like before, but cleaning will be only at the absence of the guests from the rooms.
- Will the rooms be cleaned throughout our stay or will this need to stop temporally?
This is at the discretion of each guest, if a guest requests to clean their room will do so, maids will wear disposable protective gear during their shifts and their trolleys will be sanitized before use each day, also handles of mops, dusters, toilet brushes, spay bottles will be disinfected after each shift.
- Do you keep each guestroom vacant for an extended amount of time between guests?
Each check out room will be left empty for 2 hours before being prepared for the next check in. The minimum amount of time between check out and check in will be 2 hours at period of high occupancy and back to back room bookings. All relevant safety measures and disinfection protocols will always of course be followed.
- Cleaning of rooms between guests- will it take longer?
In a case a guest requests that don't wish to clean their room then housekeeper will not clean the room. If guests will request their room to be cleaned we will conduct cleaning as per regulations of the ministry of health. Between check out and check in(after one guest leaves and other one arrives) all surfaces in room will be disinfected, special attention will be given to door jams, sides of doors, coffee facilities, remote controls, showerhead and shower valves, in room telephones, safe boxes, show curtains, hairdryers, electric sockets, toilet brushes and all self catering facilities utilities.
- Will the entertainment be available during our stay as normal?
As per our health of ministry protocol most activities will be outdoor with several restrictions on numbers and social distancing.
Swimming pool area
- What about the sun beds by the pool and beach? Will they be sterilized for each guest before use?
Sun beds will be disinfected by pool team members at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day, a pool towel should always be used.
- Will guests need to social distance in the swimming pools?
All our outdoor pools will be available for use following all the standards as per the legislation.
- What about pool usage and deep cleaning of pools every day?
Our pools are filtered and chlorinated 4-5 times a day we check the PH of the water according to the international standards.
- Will there be any regulation on the number of guests using the pools?
Yes as per legislation a number of guests will be allowed to use pools.
- Will my wedding day go ahead?
As per official legislation we can perform outdoor weddings following all the health and safety protocols as per ministry of health(social distancing, distance between tables, serving of food etc).
- Will kids club operate and how?
Kids clubs and outdoor play grounds will be closed till further notice from the ministry of Health. Limited Children activities and animation will be available.
Gym, sauna, Jacuzzi, massages
- Will the gym be available?
Gym will be available on appointment basis, as per ministry of health protocol certain number will be allowed, all equipment will be disinfected every morning, guests will have to use towels and use available antiseptic before and after use of the equipment, air conditioning will be available and windows will be opened to circulate air. Sauna and Jacuzzi will not be on operation till further notice.
Entry into the country
- How will travelers be able to enter the country?
- Source countries are divided into two categories (A and B) based on internationally available epidemiological data (the categorization can be found on https://cyprusflightpass.gov.cy/en/country-categories. Travelers should constantly visit this platform in order to remain up to date about possible changes that may affect their trip.
- Persons flying from Category A countries will not need to demonstrate a negative PCR test for COVID-19 when traveling to Cyprus; they only need to provide certain information and solemn declarations. Persons traveling from Category B countries are required to undergo a test at a certified lab within 72 hours prior to departure and hold a certificate that demonstrates a negative PCR for COVID-19; they will also need to provide certain information and solemn declarations.
- For travelers from Category B countries where PCR testing is proven to be unavailable, compulsory testing will be required upon arrival at Cyprus airports. The cost of testing is borne by the traveler, and the expected cost is estimated at 60 Euros per person (this may eventually drop further as technology advances are made and international availability of testing kits increases).
- Travel from countries which are not featured in the above two categories, is allowed only for:
- Cypriot citizens permanently residing in the Republic of Cyprus, and their family members (spouses, children and parents)./li>
- Persons legally residing in the Republic of Cyprus./li>
- Persons allowed to enter the Republic of Cyprus in accordance with the Vienna Convention./li>
- Persons not included in any of the above, provided they obtain prior written permission from the Republic of Cyprus, as defined under the Infectious Diseases Decree (N.30), as amended./li>
- What other documentation is necessary?
- A 'Cyprus Flight Pass' is available on the website https://cyprusflightpass.gov.cy, which can be accessed and filled in electronically. All passengers traveling to the Republic of Cyprus need to submit in advance all the required information and documents; use of the platform is obligatory for anyone who wishes to travel to Cyprus. ONLY in the event of a technical problem or scheduled maintenance of the electronic platform (officially announced on the electronic platform), will passengers have to fill in the required forms, in writing. These can be downloaded from https://cyprusflightpass.gov.cy/en/download-forms. In this case, travelers have to carry with them, in paper form, the required documentation. Otherwise, airlines will not permit passengers to board the aircraft and travel to the Republic of Cyprus (nevertheless, the validity of the information included in the Cyprus Flight Pass by travelers is not an obligation of the airlines).
- The flight pass will include the following points: a) personal information of the traveler b) declaration whether or not a person has traveled to/from or lived in a country other than those included in Category A and B, in the 14 days prior to travel c) confirmation that a person has not shown any symptoms related to COVID-19 in the 72 hours prior to travel d) confirmation that a person has not knowingly been in touch with COVID-19 patients in the 14 days prior to travel e) disclaimer that travel is taking place at a person’s own responsibility, and that the Republic of Cyprus or businesses operating within it, cannot be held liable for infection at any point during the travel process f) disclaimer that upon return to their country of origin, a person will notify the Health Authorities of Cyprus, should they display COVID-19 symptoms in the 14 days after leaving the island.
- What criteria is taken into consideration before categorizing countries?
- Cyprus has decided to follow a categorization system in order to ensure equal treatment of countries with similar epidemiological results. The system is transparent, avoids discrimination, is dynamic, and evaluated weekly so that countries can be added and removed based on the latest data available. The team which evaluates country data, is comprised of scientists, epidemiologists, statisticians and public health professionals.
- The main data points which are considered for the categorization of each country (categorization depends on the summary of all data points considered) are:
- real reproduction number ‘R(t)<1’ of the virus
- daily number of performed tests per 100’000 population
- cumulative 14-day impact per 100’000 population
- COVID-19 related deaths per 100’000 population (weekly and monthly)
- daily cases per 100’000 population
- estimated incubation period of the disease
- prevalence of the virus within the community
- risk assessment of each country based on data from WHO and ECDC.
- What protocols can be expected on airplanes?
- Prior to boarding, travelers will need to show their 'Cyprus Flight Pass'.
- Travelers’ temperature may possibly be taken prior to boarding.
- Wearing of masks is compulsory during the flight.
- What other protocols can be expected in Cyprus airports/ port terminals?
- Entrance or passage will only be allowed to travelers and staff.
- Travelers will have their temperature taken in the terminal.
- A physical ‘COVID-19 Information Desk’ will be made available for travelers requesting information upon arrival.
- Are there any general protocols that will apply to the whole destination?
- Enhanced health, safety and hygiene protocols have been devised for all hospitality establishments, and extensive training of staff will take place prior to the destination opening for visitors.
- Physical distancing measures will be followed in all parts of the destination, so that people who do not belong to the same travel group maintain a reasonable distance from each other (2 sq. meters outdoors, and 3 sq. meters indoors).
- Where physical distancing is not possible, wearing of a face mask will be compulsory for both staff and visitors (airplanes, airports, ports, taxis, buses, diving/safari jeeps, lifts).
- Frequent aeriation will be taking place in all indoor areas, so that air conditioning can be enhanced with regular input of fresh air.
- Antibacterial gel will be made available in all establishments, at entrances, reception areas, lounges, public toilets, lifts etc.
- Buses/rental vehicles/taxis/diving and safari jeeps
- Frequent aeriation and disinfection of buses.
- Disinfection of rental vehicles after their return (including keys).
- Disinfection of all touch points after every route, for taxis and diving/safari jeeps (door handles, seats etc.).
- Archaeological sites, museums, theme parks, mini cruises, diving sites, water sports
- Disinfection of all touch points after every use (artefacts, touch screens, rides, door handles, seats, diving equipment, water sports equipment etc.).
- Swimming pools, beaches and water parks
- Disinfection of sun beds, umbrellas and personal safe boxes after every use.
- Distance of 4m between umbrellas and 2m between sunbeds of persons not belonging to the same group.
- Physical distancing will not apply to life guards who are called into urgent life-saving action.
- Accommodation establishments
- Use of masks and carrying out of appropriate hand hygiene, for all housekeeping and service staff.
- Dispersion of guests at ‘group check-in’.
- Rooms will not be allocated to new arrivals, unless enough time has passed for appropriate cleaning, disinfection and aeriation.
- Disinfection of room keys/cards after every departure.
- Where food or drink is displayed on self-service stations, appropriate sneeze guards or face masks are availed, and hand disinfection stations are installed; alternatively, items could be served directly by the staff.
- Restaurants, bars, cafes, pubs and night clubs
- Use of masks and gloves, for all back-of-house and front-of-house staff.
- Service times will be extended, and advance booking enabled, to facilitate social distancing.
- The maximum party size is set at 10 persons.
- The minimum distance between persons not belonging to the same party, is 2 square meters outdoors, and 3 square meters indoors.
- Menus will be disinfected after every use, unless they are disposable; alternatively they will be displayed at various communal points of the establishment, or made available digitally.
- Guests will be encouraged to pay by card and not by cash.
- Disinfection of all touch points will be carried out after each use e.g. chairs, tables, salt/pepper mills, sauce bottles, electronic payment machines etc.
- Use of table linen and towels will be discouraged, and should be replaced by disposables.
- An information sheet will be made available at the entrance, displaying the maximum number of guests allowed in place at any given time.
Testing at the destination
- Is random testing going to be done at the destination level?
- Some travelers will be asked to undergo a COVID-19 test upon arrival, irrespective of where they flew from. The cost will be borne by the Cyprus government.
- How will we deal with travelers who test positive during their stay in Cyprus, and what is our capacity to do so? What happens to their close contacts i.e. their co-travelers or family members? Who will cover the cost of hospitalization and treatment?
- The Cyprus government is committed to taking care of all travelers who test positive during their stay, as well as their families and close contacts. The government will cover the cost of lodging, food, drink, and medication, in all cases mentioned above; the traveler will only need to bear the cost of their airport transfer and repatriation flight, in collaboration with their agent and/or airline.
- A COVID-19 hospital with 100 beds will be made available exclusively for travelers who test positive, and these can be increased at very short notice if required. If travelers show critical symptoms, an additional 112 intensive care units are available for their treatment, with 200 respirators on hand at any time for their perusal.
- 500 rooms in dedicated quarantine-hotels will be made available for close contacts of persons who test positive, and again these can be increased at very short notice if required. This will not only ensure that they are properly taken care of, but it will also provide peace of mind to other travelers, that their accommodation establishment is free of COVID-19. Should therefore an accommodation establishment be found to host a person who has tested positive, it will not be ordered into a 14-day quarantine; instead, the rooms used by the person who tested positive and close contacts, will undergo a deep clean and disinfection, before being utilized again.
- How can travelers be kept up-to-date with the latest developments, and informed about protocols implemented at the destination?
